There are a lot of things you could say about me, but “unmotivated” is certainly not one of them. Not only am I pushing to become a full-time freelance writer, but I’m also working on several other projects at the same time. One of those projects has reached a critical point in its development, so I figured I’d start talking about it a little more openly. Here it is: I’m starting a podcast!
The podcast will be called Skipped on Shuffle, and the quick-and-dirty tagline is “Two music geeks discuss an overlooked song by a popular artist.” Hopefully, that gives you a clear idea of what it will be about!
I got the idea while I was walking in New Haven listening to a song off the 1993 album Elemental by Tears For Fears. I forget what specific song was playing, but I thought to myself, “This song is terrific, and it’s a shame people don’t know about it.” I thought I could write an article about it and hope that some people would be turned on to the music through that piece, but then I realized that there are so many songs out there that go virtually unnoticed by music listeners. And it’s not because the bands aren’t popular, it’s because the songs weren’t radio hits and therefore get “skipped on shuffle.” If I really want to reach music listeners and get them into stuff they are missing, a weekly podcast would be the ideal platform.
Anyway, I talked to my friend Jason about the idea, and he was floored. We immediately set to work on putting the idea into action. At this point, we have three episodes recorded and another three coming in the next few weeks. We’re looking for a March/April launch…so get excited!
Last week I mentioned that some other big news is brewing, but I still can’t divulge the details on that. Sorry to keep you waiting, but I don’t want to blow the lid off until I’m 100% certain everything is going to plan. So hang tight.
In personal news, my birthday party is this weekend (my actual birthday is next week). My girlfriend has worked hard to put the whole party together, and it seems like it’s going to be a blast. Look for pics next week! Talk to you then.
